Job Description: Electrical Controls Designer
Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Electrical Controls Designer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical control systems for our Dredging equipment. Your expertise in PLC systems, electrical drawings, and control system design will be crucial in ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and safety of our equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop electrical control systems for industrial machinery and equipment, incorporating Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and other control devices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, software developers, and manufacturing personnel, to gather requirements and specifications for control systems.
- Create electrical drawings, including schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams, using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Select appropriate electrical components, such as sensors, switches, relays, and contactors, based on system requirements and industry standards.
- Develop PLC programs and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) screens to control and monitor equipment operations.
- Conduct electrical calculations to ensure proper sizing of electrical components, wire gauges, and circuit protection.
- Participate in the selection and integration of automation equipment, such as motor drives, servo systems, and communication protocols.
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements throughout the design process.
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to review and approve electrical components and equipment for compatibility with control system designs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and control system issues during development, testing, and production stages.
- Provide technical support and guidance to the manufacturing and service teams during installation, commissioning, and maintenance of control systems.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in control system technologies, PLC programming techniques, and industry best practices.
- Document control system designs, specifications, and procedures for future reference and knowledge sharing.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as an Electrical Controls Designer, preferably in the industrial machinery or automation industry.
- Strong knowledge of electrical control system design principles, PLC systems, and industrial automation.
- Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD for creating electrical drawings and schematics.
- Experience in PLC programming, preferably with knowledge of ladder logic, structured text, or function block diagram languages.
- Familiarity with Human-Machine Interface (HMI) software for creating intuitive and user-friendly control interfaces.
- Understanding of electrical components, wiring, and electrical safety practices.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings, and industry standards related to electrical control systems.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve control system issues.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and convey technical information clearly.
- Detail-oriented approach to ensure accuracy, precision, and compliance in electrical control system designs.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations and safety standards, such as NEC or IEC 61131.
- Experience with industrial machinery or automation design and manufacturing processes is highly desirable.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines.
